Money Quotes

The series “Money Quote” is a critical examination of the art market and the value-forming mechanisms that play a role in it. In “Money Quote”, quotes are taken from online posts in which artists are encouraged to attach a certificate of authenticity to their artworks in order to increase their artistic value and recognition. These quotes are transferred with a typewriter onto a small block of charcoal paper and other carrier materials, creating six new originals that are stored in a folder whose cover represents the blue back of Pelikan handmade charcoal papers. This series sheds light on the mechanisms of the art market and shows its understanding of authenticity and artistic value. The work plays with the concept of reproducibility and the associated questions of originality and authenticity.
